Pipe by Pipe
A data-driven model for expanding access to safe water in every home
A Widening Gap in a Global Crisis
The global effort to expand access to safely managed water has stalled. To meet 2030 SDG targets, we need a six-fold increase in progress. Traditional financing and delivery models are no longer enough to address the unmet and accelerating need.
A New, Data-Driven Model
Pipe by Pipe is a revolutionary approach that links small-scale capital grants to verifiable improvements in service delivery. We empower local water providers with a comprehensive digital platform to professionalize operations, improve efficiency, and achieve financial sustainability.
What we do
Accurate Data
We provide water service providers with the mWater digital management platform, which is designed for daily utility work: from meter reading and billing to asset tracking and water-quality monitoring. Expert mWater training and on-the-job mentoring support the collection of accurate data to underpin operational excellence.
Objectives:
•Bank account and legal registration
•Customer database
•Asset registry
$1K investment for full-time staff member, logistics, supplies
Technical Assistance
We partner with water service providers to build sustainable management capacity through comprehensive technical support. Our approach includes structured training programs that develop internal expertise in data analysis and performance monitoring, fostering accountability and long-term organizational sustainability.
Objectives:
•Accurate and timely KPI reporting
•Monthly meetings with actions and tracking succesful follow-through
$5 - 10K investment for activities to increase performance (e.g. meter installation, minor repairs, customer connections)
Staged Investment
By harnessing a continuous stream of data, we validate performance, fostering a self-reinforcing cycle of professionalization and sustainable, utility-led growth with targeted assistance linked to objectives: non-revenue water reduction, contracting and construction management, operations and maintenance, etc.
Objectives:
•Positive operating ratio
•Non-revenue water reduction
•Increase in household connections
•Pro-poor services
$50 - 100K investment for major capital projects (e.g. solarization, piped network expansion, source augmentation)
